Range Plan

These are my final designs for my t-shirt range.

The first t-shirt design I made was one of my print experiments made into a full t-shirt. The reason for this was because full print t-shirts are popular in high street stores, therefore hitting the target market I am after which would be ages 16-19.

The second design I made in black and white. This was a choice I made because it can be hard to find something to pair with a coloured t-shirt so making the t-shirt black and white would allow the cutomer to pair the t-shirt with other clothes/colours.

The third design was a statement t-shirt. The slogan "Jesus fucking christ" has been written in white above Jesus on the cross this is a very big statement which would allow the customer to have a shock factor to the t-shirt they are wearing therefore drawing attention to them and what clothes they are wearing.

The fourth t-shirt was a print design put on a t-shirt. This would again suite my target market because the colours are not too vibrant therefore would not take too much away from the rest of their outfit yet they would be able to still have a statement t-shirt.

The next design was again just to fit into the customers wardrobe easier as it is again black and white.

This last t-shirt was the one that stood out the most. This would fit the target market I am after as people at the age of 18 that do not agree with religion and there views on gay people would be able to wear this and show that they do not agree with what religion says, the slogan "Fuck religion" has been written at the bottom of the t-shirt. This would make a big impact onto society as it is not acceptable to usually bash religion in public. Therefore this is a statement t-shirt.

Customer Profile

Customer Profile.

The customer I am aiming for would be around the age of 18. They would be a Student yet they would work in a place such as Topshop/Topman, River Island etc. They would have no children and they would live a apartment or a small house that they shared with their friends. They would go on holidays once a year and this would be to the likes of Amsterdam or Budapest. They would also go to music festivals such as Leeds or Download.

They would shop in many different stores that range from high end fashion shops to charity shops, This would be so that they could find one of pieces or clothes that they could wear again. They would shop both online and instore as they would try to find offers or discounts online and one off pieces however they would still go to local shops and charity shops. They would be either very on trend or have a style of their own. They would never buy something because of the brand name as they would only buy things that they would enjoy to wear. They would buy both for occasion and casual wear ad they would like to buy new clothes all the time. They would have no spending backer because if they wanted something they would save up to make sure that they had enough money for it.

Their favourite designer would be the likes of Alexander McQueen, Versace, Iris Van Herpen etc. They would read the likes of Vogue and Elle to be on the Fashion know. They would admire celebrities such as Lady Gaga her crazy Fashion and her amazing music. They would hate people that wear things because of the brand for example only wearing something because it has a designer name yet it could be ugly.

This is the type of customer I would hope to buy the t-shirt range I am creating.

Experimentation 2

Print Experiments 2

Satan is God

For this design I have taken a painting of God and I have taken a painting on Satan that I painted and put it as the head I have then put clouds in the background representing heaven and then written on the bottom "SATAN IS GOD"
I have not used any colour scheme for this as there was not one I could have decided on. This was made using secondary and primary resources and the painting of Stan was done by myself. I used Photoshop again for this to cut around the head of the painting to fit onto the body of God. However, I do not think this experiment worked very well as the head of the painting is too big for the body so it doesn't go very well. If I could change anything I would change The body I used and also I would have re-shapen the head.

Pope as Satan

For this design I have taken a picture of the pope and I have put horns onto him representing that he is Satan, also if you look closely at his left hand there is a marking of the Illuminati.
There was no colour scheme needed for this as it was just adding things onto the Pope. I only used secondary sources for this design. I again used Photoshop to cute around the horns and the fins a effect to make the Illuminati symbol blend into his skin and it now looks like a burn, like he has been branded by the Illuminati. I think that this design is a neutral design as it is not the best but it is not the worst. I particularly like the Illuminati symbol on his hand as again it looks like he has been branded by the Illuminati and this would be a big this as he is one of the most powerful people alive as he is believed to be Gods messenger and he controls a lot in Religion. This also stands for the devil horns because he is such a big person in Christianity it would be wrong for him to be Satan as he would be evil and not good like God.

Eat Acid, See Satan

For this design I have taken two pictures of a upside down pentagram representing Satan and Satanism and I have positioned them where a girls boobs would be, I have then wrote "EAT ACID SEE SATAN" underneath that. I then took a picture of the Rolling Stoned tongue and out a tab of acid onto it. This is representing that drugs are sent by Satan as this is what many believe.
These is no colour scheme for this as there is hardly any colour apart from the tab of acid and the tongue itself. I used secondary sourced for this design. I again used Photoshop to position all the pictures for the t-shirt. I am happy with this design as even though it is minimalistic it is a nice design and would sell on a t-shirt. If I was to change anything I would make the acid tab blend into more and be less square and out of place.

Experimentation 1

Print Experiment 1

Jesus in hell

This experiment is one of my favourite that I created. For this experiment I have put Jesus on the cross being burnt in front of stained glass however in the background behind Jesus is the shadow of Satan. This was to inter-prate that when Jesus was tortured and killed on the cross it was the work of the Devil and that is why there is fire as a representative of Hell.
This print was arranged to look like Jesus is being burnt and being "dragged down to hell" by the flames. The shadow of Satan is also a representative of evil as what happened to Jesus was evil and the work of Satan some may say. I have used a dark colour scheme as the shadow takes up a lot of the background however the flames and the stained glass give the design some colour. I think that the design blends in and each aspect is looked at, not one is too overpowering. This design was done using secondary sources. To make this I used Photoshop and I layered each item in the picture to fit the way it has. The shadow of Satan was done by using a cartoon drawing of Satan and using a different effect to make it darker therefore looking like a shadow. I think that this design has worked well as when I imagined it this is what I thought it would look like, in particular I really like the shadow of Satan as it is a big part of the design yet it is subtle and not too obvious when you first look at the design also it represents evil in religion.

Jesus in Drag

For this experiment I have a famous painting of Jesus and I have put a lavender wig and red lips onto him I have also covered his eyes and put homophobic slurs in the background. It has been set out like this to make it look like Jesus is dressed as a woman (A Drag Queen) and as being gay is considered a sin in the Catholic religion this would be a sin towards god and as he is the son of God this makes a big statement. The Homophobic slurs in the background are to represent what would be said to Jesus by homophobes if he was seen like this.
I haven't really used any colour scheme for this print as there was no need to add much colour and as the background is plain text writing it brings more focus onto the main picture of Jesus. For this I used Secondary sources. Again I used Photoshop to layer the wig and lips onto Jesus I also used a paint tool to paint on pink blusher onto his cheeks. I am really happy with this design as it makes a really big statement about religion and how they react to sexuality. If I was to develop anything it would be to add more slurs into the background of the design.

Hell is Earth

For this experiment I have taken a picture of Earth and turned it red, I then put the satanic symbol on top and wrote "HELL IS EARTH" underneath. The reason for the red earth was because the colour red is usually symbolised with the Devil and hell it is also the colour of blood so it could be seen as the world is covered in blood or that earth is literally hell.
The colour scheme for this was black and red because again red is associated with hell and the devil and black is the darkest colour you can get. Again I used secondary sources for this design. I also again used Photoshop to put the writing onto the earth and also to find the right effect to make the earth turn red. This is one of my least favourite designs as it very simple and plain HOWEVER it has many different meanings for example the text "HELL ON EARTH" could be taken literally as in some places of the earth some people are living in a hell as a example people who are homeless, people who are poor and living in slums, people who are slowly dying of disease or even people who are depressed/suicidal. This design has a hidden meaning depending on how your minds reads it.

Mood Board

Mood Board

The mood board I created is linked in with six religions. These are Rastafari, Hindu, Buddhism, Satanism, Wicca and Christianity. These religions were conveyed by the different images on the mood board.

Rastafari – The Rasta coloured peace sign and weed sign.
Hindu – the Hindu symbol, the colour festival smoke, the Hindu hand and the Hindu God, Ganesh.
Buddhism – the lotus flower and the Buddha.
Satanism – The Satan drawing.
Wicca – The pentagram.
Christianity – The last supper painting and the stained glass background.

My mood board was put together by putting pictures were I thought they would fit into the mood board for example the stained glass as the background because it doesn’t take the whole focus of the mood board yet it is noticed. I arranged the mood board to be colourful yet not to in your face, the colours used are subtle and not to bright therefore allowing the whole mood board to be take in and not just one section of the mood board.

The sources I used were mainly secondary as the images were off the Internet as I had no time to prepare for the mood board. I looked at different aspects for the mood board such as artist. I also used a painting, the last supper, in the mood board so I was incorporating more of a variety of textures. I used Photoshop to create the mood board, I mainly just took a picture and cut it to the shape that I wanted I then played around and seen where the picture would fit and look right and then I would place it. I like to think that the use of the placement worked well as all the pictures can be seen and not one is too big to take over the whole mood board.

I am happy with my mood board because the layout is done well and I am able to study each of the aspects of the mood board easily. I personally like the lotus flower as it informs you what religions are on the mood board and it is a pretty colour. I wish I had taken more time to make everything more blended and less rough edged. I would change the pentagram in the top corner as it is not a colour that goes with the subtle colour scheme as it is a silver and green were as the rest are yellows, pinks etc. I would do this so that the pentagram fitted into the mood board more.

Leonardo Da Vinci

Leonardo Da Vinci

Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci was a Italian Renaissance Polymath - painter, sculptor, architect, musician, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer botanist, and writer. He I famous for many painting for example the Mona Lisa, the Baptism of Christ and Virgin of the Rocks.

The piece I am going to talk about is The Last Supper. This painting is a late 15th century painting. The painting is of Jesus and his disciples at a table eating the last supper, this is the time where Jesus gave his disciples his body and blood to eat and drink. The painting shows the reactions of his disciples when Jesus told them that one of them would betray him. The painting has been influenced clearly by religion, Christianity to be specific. This piece of artwork is very famous all over the world, this could be to thee fact that it shows what Jesus would have supposedly looked like and it also shows the reaction of his disciples which was a big thing to happen (Jesus being betrayed by Judas.)

The painting is a clear painting and looks like it is a photograph. This is so the viewers can understand what is going on in the painting so get a real feel of what I going on in the painting. The painting is pretty clear about what is going on however, each disciple has a different facial expression which was used when they were told that one of them was going to betray Jesus. It shows that the disciples where stunned and appalled yet suspicious of who the person to betray Jesus would be. The painting has been set out so that the table is very long therefore we are able to see all the disciples around Jesus therefore, being able to see their reactions. The painting is 460cm × 880cm which covers a wall of a monastery dining room in Milan, Italy. Again, this is important because you are able to see each individual and what there face is conveying through there emotions. The colour scheme for the painting is very dusty, however this suit the time period and place where this was because it was very dusty, practically a desert, where Jesus lived. It also shows off how old the painting is as the colours are dull, the colours compliment each other as one colour isn't too much to take your eye of the actual painting.

Leonardo used greasy linen oil and egg based tempera, spread on a double layer of dry plaster. He started the painting in 1495 and finished it in 1498 (however he did not work on the painting continuously through out the three years.)

In my opinion I think that the artwork is a very pleasing piece, the work is done great and everything about the painting I perfect. The colour scheme work perfectly with the type of painting and what it is portraying. When I look at this piece of artwork it makes me want to read about what happened during this and after this. It also intrigues me to look at other Da Vinci work as through this piece you can see just how talented he was. I would use this artist as inspiration for my garment because this painting in particular is very famous and is very well executed, I could also do many things to make this painting controversial or stand out on a t-shirt.

Gilbert and George

Gilbert and George

Gilbert Prosech and George Passmore are the artist behind the collaboration Gilbert & George. The collection ‘Sonofagod’ was released in 2005 and question the fact ‘Was Jesus Hetrosexual?’ Right now the work could influence the Russia Anti-Gay Law as right now gay people are being locked up for being gay. The question of Jesus’ sexuality would affect people’s views on the situation. As we can see religion has influenced their artwork which can be seen through the stained glass type of art they produced and all of the religious imagery used in the paintings.

The piece I am showing has many different themes about it. The first theme that I noticed was the man in the centre, as the person has red skin this could be a representative of the devil, as well as that the man is dressed in a business suit which business is associated with money therefore this could be a representative of money being the root of all evil. As well as that as the other two figures (Gilbert and George) are white skin they could be a representative of Heaven and the red skinned character could be a representative of hell. Furthermore, the piece has hands joined together which could mean prayer or accepting communion in church. The painting is also in a stained glass fashion which is found in churches however it is used in a completely different contrast here. The two characters to the side of the painting (Gilbert and George) are both putting their fingers up, this could be telling religion to ‘Fuck off.’

This painting does not give you what it means straight away you have to study the painting to get the meanings of it. As many things are going on in the painting it takes time to figure out meanings for each part. The painting in question doesn’t look like a real stained glass window as the colours are too vibrant however that is what George and Gilbert use to make there paintings more eye catching.

They have used oil paints for this to make the colours stand out and to also make it look similar to stained glass. The paintings take up nearly a full wall in the exhibition room.

This piece of art work is bright and colourful which makes it a happy piece of artwork, however the actual content of the painting is a completely different feel, it makes you question religion and what it is about as it has hidden meanings. I would use this for inspiration on my own work because they are very controversial artists which make a statement on the art word therefore will be remembered also they bring up questions about religion that would usually not be talked about.
